Alexander Salvesen

Alexander Salvesen (b. 1990) is a Helsinki based Swedish speaking visual artist. Salvesen works without prejudice with different visual media, usually with light as a main focus. His work is based on colours, shapes, spaces, and their relationship to each other and to the viewer. In recent years he has gained recognition especially through his skillful manipulation and combination of neon lights with three dimensional objects and pigments as well as his use of old analog projection techniques. He is interested in the manipulation of our perception and likes to, through his works, tickle the viewer's mind to reflect on their own senses and suggest a moment of serenity by just being present in the moment. Nature with all its diversity and phenomena, as well as our global geopolitical atmosphere is a strong inspirational source for him. In recent years, Salvesen has taken a strong stance on the ongoing climate catastrophe, the collapse of biodiversity and the changes in our habitat. Currently he is interested in the complexity of our perception, the puzzling concept of time and our obsession with speed and travel in an age of mass extinction. 

Salvesen graduated in 2018 as Master of Arts from the Degree Programme of Lighting Design at the University of the Arts in Helsinki and has been working professionally as a visual artist since then. His works have been exhibited in museums, galleries and multiple events in Finland and abroad.
