Alexander Salvesen: Perception Calibrator III - 6500K
Neonlight, polycarbonate and charcoal on wood
Perception Calibrator III - 6500K, 2021 Neonlight, polycarbonate and charcoal on wood 125 x 40 x 14 cm
The Perception Calibrator-series is contemplating our visual perception of light. The artwork utilises high contrast lighting (a slowly on/off-pulsating white 6500K neon light) with the surface of the three dimensional white, grayscale and black painting creating a varied perception of depth and colour. Half of the artwork happens in your mind as the light creates coloured afterimages in your retina which the viewer then projects onto the monochromatic surface of the painting.
The artwork is also possible to be displayed without the pulsating light.
Perception Calibration-series is a part of a larger exhibition series titled In Visibilis which was inspired by binary barcodes, lines and our perception of reality and time.
