WhiteNight
WhiteNight is a creative duo: Arto & Joonas, passionate about lighting and light art. With extensive experience in the field, we have been dedicated to light art since 2014, working on a variety of projects.
Our team is passionate about creating unique lighting solutions that challenge the viewer. We use the latest methodologies to enhance both the conceptualization and visualization of our designs. Our work is infused with passion, enthusiasm, and playfulness, and we take great pride in our creations.
In Scandinavia, light transforms with the seasons. Late fall brings darkness, only to be brightened by the first snowstorm. As spring approaches, the days lengthen, culminating in the endless daylight of midsummer. This dynamic interplay of light and darkness deeply influences our work. Our company name, "WhiteNight," reflects our values and philosophy, rooted in the season of the midnight sun.
Arto Heiskanen began his career in architectural lighting design in 2000 while completing studies at Tampere Polytechnic. Over the years, Arto has led numerous projects both in Finland and abroad. After 12 years, it was time for a new direction. To pursue our own artistic visions, we founded WhiteNight Lighting Oy with Joonas Saaranen in the spring of 2013.
Joonas Saaranen aims to challenge darkness with light, creating contrast and contour. With a background in Industrial Design from Rovaniemi, Barcelona, and Berlin, Joonas earned a master's degree in architectural lighting design from KTH ALD in Stockholm in 2009. He has worked across Europe in both large-scale corporate settings and independent agencies. At WhiteNight, Joonas combines his passions for light art and luminaire design, bringing innovative and artistic lighting solutions to life.
The Nordic light is a combination of extremes from endless days to dark gloomy hours. This unique variation of light creates an endless source for inspiration.
We primarily create permanent light art to enhance living environments. Our approach goes beyond just artificial light; we integrate both sunlight and artificial light in our designs.
