Veli-Ville Sivén: Kontti (The Container)
An installation exploring how we perceive and describe light
Kontti is a study of how we observe light and put it into words. How do we speak of light, and how does light appear in our everyday lives? This installation comprises a specially built room where recorded voices of various people discuss light. The purpose of this study is to highlight the diversity of how we talk about light. It also reveals the different ways in which we view light and, at the same time, the world. The work begins with the construction of a room and a specific lighting condition. Local participants are then invited, one by one, to enter the space and describe the light they experience; their voices are recorded and later composed as part of the installation. The installation consists of this illuminated room and a composition of recorded voices, allowing visitors to encounter the same light while listening to how others perceive and articulate it.
