Petri Lehtinen: Mandala Factory

Mandala Factory is a hybrid of a light art exhibition, an open studio and a sanctuary.

Mandala Factory is a hybrid of a light art exhibition, an open studio and a sanctuary. Each mandala, on display at Mandala Factory, is a result of an improvisatory process, a creative act between two artists with one intention: to reveal the secret order that is present within all disorder. The person visiting the factory completes the process. Everyone is invited to see themselves in the mandala.

At the centre of Mandala Factory is a game board, a transparent sheet of plexiglass. Petri Lehtinen, artist / curator, invites a fellow artist to play with. Players use plastic trash - recycled medical utilities - as game pieces, adding, moving, removing them until there are no more moves to be made. Everybody has won. A new mandala is born.

Mandala Factory was born of Petri Lehtinen’s light art residency exhibition at Glo Art Hotel in Helsinki, January 2022. The work is scalable and mobile.

Petri Lehikoinen, curator: Theater Academy of Finland, Directors Department 1987-1991, b. 1962, lives in Helsinki, Finland
