Tomi Leppänen: 4 33
A blank musical staff made of white neon tubes
4 33 Installation at the Nomen Nescio Gallery Space. 4 33 can be seen as a visual / spatial cover version of the John Cage’s silent composition 4’33” (1952). The installation features a blank musical staff made of white neon tubes. Exploring the concepts of time and space, the piece stretches physically to 4 meters and 33 centimeters in length, and its illumination lasts exactly 4 minutes and 33 seconds. The staff lights up line by line, remains fully lit for the duration, and then dims sequentially, creating a temporal rhythm that mirrors Cage’s exploration of silence and attention.
Known for his minimalist approach, that is characterized by its combination of conceptual art, design and visual culture.
With his background in graphic design and music, Leppänen’s artistic work is often rooted in a simple concept or observation.
