Tomas De Rita: 1984
An interactive "robot" which creates a stream of lights, images and sound.
1984 is an audiovisual installation, which resembles a robot. The installation is made up of several old tube screens, video mixers, tuning generators, surveillance cameras, LED lights, UV LED bar, Eurorack-modules, sensors and sound.
The work features technology from the 70's to the present day, making a decades-long journey though the development of AV technology, while also creating a cross-section of equipment and aesthetics used in VJ culture. The devices with their different parts and wires are left deliberately visible.
The viewer observes the robot, and the robot observes the viewer, who’s movements and gestures affect the image and sound of the installation. The sounds, images and lights create an endless stream.
Visual artist and Art educator. Born 1976. Lives in Helsinki, Finland.
